AL 4, NL 0

The American League All-Star team put together a 4–0 shutout victory against the National League in the 2026 All-Star game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia Tuesday. This is the first shutout in an All-Star game since 2013.

New York Yankees sluggers Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice scored the first three runs in the first. Miguel Vargas followed through on a solo homer in the eighth. Bellinger received All-Star Game MVP Honors for his performance. The pitching staff, on the other hand, posted 15 strikeouts behind three in the first from Dylan Cease.

AL Jumps Ahead in All-Star Game

Yordan Alvarez singled off Christopher Sanchez in the first. Sanchez then walked two batters, loading the bases for the AL. With runners in scoring position, Bellinger drove in a pair on a two RBI single. Rice lined an RBI single to score another.

After a quick second inning, Junior Caminero was pulled from the All-Star game after a pitch hit his finger. This was to the avail of the AL failing to score with two runners on. The NL side did the same, as they entered the fourth down three. Juan Soto singled to start that fourth inning. Yet, Joe Ryan responded by striking out two of the next three batters to end the frame.

Pulling Away

Neither side got much going through the sixth, as the standstill continued in the seventh. However, Vargas ended the All-Star game deadlock with a solo shot in the eighth. In response, Pete Crow-Armstrong lined a single during the bottom half of the inning. Still, the NL failed to capitalize with a runner on first.

In the ninth, the tandem of Mason Miller and Jhoan Duran held the AL scoreless. Aroldis Chapman and Bryan Baker did the same in response, as the AL secured the shutout victory.

What Went Right For The AL

The AL pitching staff put together a nice win, with Cease leading the charge. He struck out three in the first to secure the win. Michael Wacha and Ryan combined for four strikeouts, as Cade Smith had two strikeouts of his own. As previously mentioned, the staff as a whole struck out 15 batters.

The lineup was also productive, especially on two occasions. Bellinger and Rice scored their team’s first three runs during the first. Vargas followed through on a deep solo homer in the eighth to put their team ahead by four.

What Went Wrong For The NL

Sanchez gave up three hits and three earned runs in the first. Justin Wrobleski surrendered the only other earned run, but did record five strikeouts. 19 members of the lineup went hitless, including Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Freddie Freeman. Soto and Crow-Armstrong recorded the team’s only hits of the evening.
