The New York Mets promoted outfielder and third baseman Christopher Morel to their major league roster ahead of Monday’s series opener at Citi Field against the San Diego Padres. The roster move comes more than a month after the club signed Morel to a minor league deal. Additionally, the Mets have promoted top prospects Emilien Pitre and Billy Amick, who were acquired ahead of the August 3 trade deadline, to Triple-A Syracuse.

Christopher Morel Joins Mets

Morel began his fifth season with the Miami Marlins in 2026. He struggled to get much going, producing three hits, 11 doubles, a home run and an RBI. Those numbers were much lower than what he had previously recorded during his time with the Chicago Cubs. For instance, he recorded 96 hits, 70 RBI and 26 home runs in 2023.

However, Christopher Morel was presented with a fresh start when he joined the Mets. In 31 appearances at Triple-A Syracuse, the 27-year-old registered 35 hits, seven doubles, 29 RBI and 12 home runs. He slashed .321/.382/.716 on a 1.098 OPS during this minor league stint.

Back with a major league roster, Morel gives the Mets another right-handed hitter. He is also an average fielder, who can play second and third base in addition to center field.

Prospects Promoted

After Christopher Morel was promoted, Pitre and Amick are expected to take their talents to Triple-A Syracuse. Pitre was the Tampa Bay Rays No. 27 prospect acquired alongside two other prospects for right-hander Freddy Peralta. In 10 appearances at Double-A Binghamton, the middle infielder recorded 15 hits and seven RBI while slashing .375/.386/.375 on a .761 OPS.

Amick, on the other hand, was the Minnesota Twins No. 21 prospect the Mets acquired for left-hander A.J. Minter. In 12 appearances at Double-A Binghamton, the first and third baseman recorded 14 hits, 22 RBI and seven home runs while slashing .304/.396/.783 on a 1.179 OPS. Both prospects could join the major league roster come next season depending on how they perform at Triple-A Syracuse.
