The New York Mets are expected to promote prospect Nick Morabito from Triple-A Syracuse to the major league roster. The left-fielder is ranked No. 13 in the Mets farm system and made five appearances in the majors during the regular season. Will Sammon of The Athletic was first to report on this development Monday.

Nick Morabito Promoted

The Mets are likely to call up Morabito after they placed Luis Robert Jr. on waivers. The veteran outfielder was subsequently claimed by the Baltimore Orioles. This creates a gap in the outfield between rookies Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing. Juan Soto, meanwhile, is expected to retake his spot in left, but it will take some time for him to settle in after returning from injury.

Nick Morabito fills that void for the time being. In his first stint in the majors, he failed to record any hits or runs in 11 at-bats. He also struck out nine times in those five games.

Upon returning to Triple-A Syracuse, Morabito found success. Across 114 appearances, he totaled 108 hits, 14 doubles, 47 RBI and 13 home runs. He stole 42 bases in addition to slashing .254/.355/.388 on a .743 OPS. In five minor league seasons, he has 435 hits, 68 doubles, 25 home runs and 165 RBI with 172 stolen bases.

Youth Movement Continues

Although he struggled during his time around, Morabito gives the Mets another prospect with raw potential. His speed and athleticism makes him a viable option on the defensive side. This is similar to Ewing, who has made multiple good catches and throws from center.

Benge has done better, ranking fourth in baseball with nine outfield assists. He has also improved at the plate, smashing five home runs in August and going on two separate five and four game hitting streaks. This makes him a valuable asset to the Mets for the future, as is Ewing and also Nick Morabito.
