Here are the latest Atlanta Braves injury updates. Catcher Sean Murphy‘s return since his injury is marked with success in Triple-A, while Austin Riley looks to return soon. Murphy went down on Opening Day in Philadelphia. On a swing in the seventh inning, Murphy strained his left oblique and exited the game. The Braves won 9–3, but lost Murphy for multiple weeks. On May 21, Murphy returned to action for a rehab assignment, going to Triple-A.
In his first at-bat, Murphy worked a 2–0 count. He got a high fastball that he tattooed out to center, hitting the batters eye. The ball went 449 feet and opened the scoring for the Stripers in the first inning. In totality, he caught seven innings, homered, drew a walk, and scored two runs. In Murphy’s only game this season, he went hitless in three at-bats. The Braves hope to see Murphy healthy, as their bats need a spark in a cold hitting time.

Austin Riley
In other injury news, Austin Riley’s progression could lead the third baseman to action this week. Riley exited a game against the New York Mets after feeling tightness in his left side. On May 12, the two-time All-Star left action and hasn’t returned. In positive news, a physical has cleared Riley to start swinging and physical movement again. He spent some time in the cage swinging before the series opener against the Chicago Cubs on May 21. The Braves don’t want to rush their star third baseman into any action early in the season.
Although Riley’s progression is better, the Braves haven’t set a return date. In addition, they don’t announce anything too early. This season, Riley is hitting .245 with an OBP of .319 and OPS+ of 100. Altogether, the Braves have played eight games without Riley, and posted a 3–5 record. Both players should return soon, and with the Braves hitters currently in a slump, a return to action could help the World Series hopefuls. The Braves are 27–18, six games back of the Phillies for for first place in the NL East.
