Mets rookie pitcher Brandon Sproat walked Paul DeJong during the third inning before Jorge Alfaro hit a single. DeJong was brought home by a throwing error from Sproat.

Sproat then walked Jacob Young, before CJ Abrams hit an RBI double to score Alfaro. Josh Bell then hit an RBI double to bring Abrams home. Daylen Lile hit an RBI triple to score Bell and give the Nationals a three-run lead.

Lindor reached base on a walk during the third, before Soto hit a single. Alonso then hit a two-run RBI single to score both base runners.

Sproat was pulled after four innings. He ended the outing with five strikeouts, but surrendered four hits, four runs, and two walks.

Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte hit singles during the fourth inning, before being scored by Francisco Alvarez’s two RBI double. A pitch hit Brett Baty before Lindor hit a single. Alvarez scored during that play due to a fielding error by James Wood. Soto’s two-run home run then scored Lindor and Baty.

Abrams, the Nationals’ shortstop, responded during the fifth inning with a two-run home run that scored Young. Young had reached base on a single.

Jeff McNeil hit a single during the seventh, before being replaced by pinch-runner Luisangel Acuna. Acuna stole second and was scored by a groundout from Marte.

Lindor hit a double during the eighth inning, before Soto and Alonso reached base on walks. With the bases loaded, Lindor scored on a walk from Acuna. Nimmo then hit a two-RBI single to score Alonso and Soto. This gave the Mets a six-run lead and helped them take down Washington.
