The Boston Red Sox eke out a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night in Fenway Park. The Red Sox offense came solely from a three-run homer by Jarren Duran. Jake Bennett, who made his MLB debut this game, notched the win, pitching five innings of one-run ball. Mike Burrows got the loss, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on eight hits.
Red Sox-Astros Game Summary
Bennett struggled a fair bit in the first two innings, but did not allow any runs to score. That was until Carlos Correa led off the third inning with a home run to the Green Monster seating to put the Astros up 1-0.
Not to be outdone, the Red Sox got runners on the corners for Duran. He got his pitch, a hanging curveball, and hit it into the bullpen for his second home run of the year. Despite throwing over 50 pitches in three innings, Bennett made it through the next two innings unscathed before Zack Kelly pitched the sixth.
Despite getting two runners on base in the sixth and eighth innings, the Astros failed to get the clutch hit they needed. Aroldis Chapman came in and shut the door in the ninth, despite Yordan Alvarez coming up as the tying run.
