Marcus Semien, of the Texas Rangers, has won the Gold Glove Award at second base for the American League. The announcement was made by Rawlings Sunday in a televised show on ESPN.  The Rawlings Gold Gloves are presented for defensive excellence each year.

This is the first time for the Rangers to have a Gold Glove winner since 2023. That year, the club had three: Jonah Heim, Nathaniel Lowe, and Adolis García. With the addition of Semien in 2025, the Rangers have now had 18 different players win a Gold Glove Award in team history.

Semien’s Season

Marcus Semien, who turned 35 on September 17, posted a career-high .996 fielding percentage. He committed two errors in 493 total chances – the highest mark among qualified AL second basemen.  Semien also paced AL second basemen with five defensive runs saved, according to FanGraphs. He ranked third with seven outs above average, per Statcast.  Semien started 127 of the Rangers’ first 129 games through August 21 at second base before suffering a left foot contusion that caused him to miss the club’s final 33 games of the campaign.

This marks the second career Gold Glove Award for Semien. He claimed his first honor in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays. Semien also becomes the first-ever to win the award at second base, which was the lone infield position at which the Rangers had yet to have a winner in club history. Over the last five seasons, Semien and Andrés Giménez – who won thrice with the Cleveland Guardians from 2022-24 – are the only two AL second basemen to win the award.

 The Voting Process

Voting was complete before the end of the regular season. The announcement of the finalists came on October 15. Four other Rangers were named finalists. They were Jacob deGrom, Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford, and García. Semien will receive his hardware November 13 in Las Vegas, along with the rest of the winners.
