Texas Rangers infielder Ezequiel Duran has been selected as a winner of the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award. The honor comes as a result of his effort at the utility position in the American League. The announcement was made by Rawlings Sunday evening in a televised show on ESPN. The Rawlings Gold Gloves are presented for defensive excellence each year.
Career First for Duran
Ezequiel Duran, a first-time Gold Glove recipient, is the first Ranger to win the utility Gold Glove since Rawlings added the position in 2022. He joins previous AL winners DJ LeMahieu in 2022, Mauricio Dubón in 2023 and 2025, and Dylan Moore in 2024.
The Rangers now have 19 different players with a Gold Glove Award in team history, including five winners in the last four seasons – Duran in 2026, Marcus Semien in 2025, and Adolis García, Nathaniel Lowe, and Jonah Heim in 2023.
The voting process was conducted before the end of the regular season by players and coaches. No one could vote for their own player. The finalists — the top three vote recipients at each position — were announced on October 14. Three other Rangers finalists did not win: right-hander Jacob deGrom, left-fielder Wyatt Langford, and center fielder Evan Carter.
Jack of All Trades
The 27-year-old Duran was the only major league player in 2026 to start and finish a game at every position. This does not include pitcher or catcher. His career-high 153 contests were split among seven defensive assignments – third base (57 games), shortstop (53 games), second base (37 games), left field (21 games), center field (18 games), right field (14 games), and first base (three games). He totaled 17 outs above average, tied for the sixth-highest figure in the majors per Statcast. His 11 outs above average at shortstop were fourth-most in the AL despite making 49 starts at the position.
Duran appeared at all seven non-battery spots for the second time in his career. He also accomplished the feat in 2024. He joins previous utility Gold Glove honorees Dubón (2023-25) and Moore (2020, 2022-23) as the only players with multiple seasons of appearances at all non-pitcher/catcher positions since 2020.
Rangers players have now claimed Gold Glove awards at eight of the 10 positions currently offered by Rawlings, with the lone exceptions being left field and center field. However, primary center fielders Gary Pettis (1990) and Juan Beníquez (1977) won Gold Gloves when Rawlings distributed three general outfield awards per league. The Rangers were also honored as the AL recipient of the team Gold Glove in 2025.
This year’s Gold Glove Award winners will be honored in a ceremony in New York City Friday, November 6.
