Rangers’ Marcus Semien, Corey Seager Win AL Silver Slugger Awards

Silver Slugger

Marcus Semien and Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers have been named AL Silver Sluggers. Semien walks away with the hardware at the second base spot, and Seager gets the honors at shortstop. It was an extraordinary year for Semien and Seager as well as the rest of the Rangers organization as they took home their first World Series championship in franchise history, having beaten the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games. Having two Silver Sluggers and two Gold Glove winners in Nathaniel Lowe and Adolis Garcia is icing on the cake. Lowe and Garcia were also named Silver Slugger finalists earlier in the week.

Never Missed a Beat

Corey Seager put together a regular season MVP-worthy performance despite playing only 119 games. The 29-year-old batted .327 with 33 home runs, 96 RBI, and a 1.013 OPS. He led all shortstops in home runs, on-base percentage (.390), slugging percentage (.623) and OPS. This is the first Silver Slugger for Seager since the 2017 season. That year, he won it in the National League as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Seager also took home the title in 2016 after batting .308 with 26 dingers. This is his first Silver Slugger with the Rangers.

Perfect Attendance

Marcus Semien turned in a campaign in which he played all 162 games of the regular season at second base. He was also penciled into the leadoff spot in every single one of those games by Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. Semien capped off the World Series with a two-run blast in the ninth inning of the clinching Game Five to secure the win. In the regular season, Semien led the American League with 185 hits and 122 runs scored. He also had 29 home runs, 14 stolen bases, and 100 RBI. This is also his first Silver Slugger with the Rangers.

Lowe and Garcia both Worthy Candidates

García had four home runs in the ALCS. That feat secured him the ALCS MVP. He finished the regular season slashing .245/.328/.508 with an .836 OPS. Garcia hit 39 home runs and drove in 107 to go along with his 29 doubles. Lowe, the reigning AL Sliver Slugger winner, posted a .262/.360/.414 along with 17 home runs and 82 RBI. He also finished with a .774 OPS, fourth-highest among AL first basemen.
