Mets 6, Yankees 3

After a forgetful start to the Subway Series, the New York Mets earned a 6–3 win over the New York Yankees at Citi Field on Saturday. Mark Vientos drove in three runs, while Carson Benge and Juan Soto combined for five hits. Huascar Brazoban recorded fewer than two innings before David Peterson handled the next four. Peterson struck out eight hitters, allowed six hits, and gave up two earned runs.

Subway Series Madness

After a scoreless first inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. opened the second with a double to right field. Trent Grisham followed with an RBI single for the first run of the evening. Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt each recorded their first hits in the third, but with runners at the corners, Peterson struck out Chisholm to end the threat.

Benge answered with a double to deep right in the bottom of the third. Bo Bichette and Soto drew walks to load the bases. A wild pitch from Carlos Rodón brought home two runs, giving the Mets a 2–1 lead.

In the fourth, Austin Slater drew a walk before Brett Baty lined an RBI double for the third Mets run. In the fifth, Ben Rice was hit by a pitch and Judge walked, but a double play erased Judge as Rice moved to third. Goldschmidt followed with an RBI single to right, cutting the Mets lead to 3–2.

Sealing the Deal

Benge singled to start the fifth and Soto drew another walk. Vientos drilled an RBI double to deep left, scoring both runners.

After a scoreless sixth, Judge doubled to left. Cody Bellinger hit a routine fly ball that Benge dropped, allowing Judge to score. Brooks Raley hit Goldschmidt with a pitch, and Chisholm singled to load the bases. Former Yankees reliever Luke Weaver struck out the next three hitters to preserve the Mets lead.

Benge singled again in the seventh, Bichette reached on a fielder’s choice, and Soto lined a single to right before stealing second. Vientos grounded out to bring Soto home, extending the Mets’ lead to three. Weaver and Devin Williams combined to hold the Yankees scoreless over the final two innings.

What Went Right For the Mets

Vientos led the Mets with three RBI and an extra‑base hit. Benge and Soto combined for five hits, and Baty added an RBI. The Mets totaled eight hits and four RBI. On the mound, Brazoban struck out two before Peterson recorded eight strikeouts. Weaver and Williams held the Yankees scoreless and combined for three strikeouts over the final three innings.

What Went Wrong for the Mets

Peterson allowed six hits and two earned runs. Raley allowed two hits and a run. Benge’s dropped fly ball in the seventh brought in the Yankees’ third run.

Looking Ahead

With the Subway Series tied, the Mets need one more win to take it — and the Yankees need one as well heading into Sunday’s rubber match. Right‑hander Freddy Peralta will start for the Mets against Yankees right‑hander Elmer Rodriguez. First pitch Sunday from Citi Field is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. Eastern.
