Rangers Trade for Logan O’Hoppe, Chase Silseth

The Texas Rangers acquired right-hander Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels. Going to the Angels will be minor-league infielder Angel Arredondo. News of the development was first reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN Wednesday evening. The deal comes less than a week before Major League Baseball trade deadline on August 3.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rangers are sending catcher Danny Jansen and righty Jose Corniell to the 60-day Injured List. The Rangers optioned Logan O’Hoppe to Triple-A Round Rock, and Chase Silseth will be added to the Rangers active roster when he reports, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News.

What Silseth Brings to Arlington

The 26-year-old Silseth owns a 3–2 record with a 2.72 ERA over 47 relief appearances with the Angels this season. He posted a 1.412 WHIP and 10.9 strikeouts per 9 innings. He has held opposing batters to a .230/.329/.331/.660 slash line with 22 walks against 48 strikeouts, permitting three home runs all year (0.68 HR/9).

Over his last seven appearances since July 9, Silseth has not allowed an earned run over 6 2/3 innings. He has produced a whiff percentage of 32.7%, ranking in the majors’s 93rd percentile according to Baseball Savant. Silseth has also generated an average exit velocity of 86.6 mph, ranking in the 88th percentile in MLB, along with a 32.0% hard-hit rate (87th percentile).

Catching Depth

Logan O’Hoppe has served as the Angels’ primary backstop in 2026, making 68 starts behind the plate while batting .209 (49-for-234) with four home runs, eight doubles, and 23 RBI. Entering Wednesday, his 52 successful ABS challenges were the fourth-most among AL catchers.

A right-handed batter and thrower, O’Hoppe carries a .273 (18-for-66) batting average against left-handers this season, the third-highest such mark among AL catchers. In 25 career games against the Rangers, the 26-year-old owns a .261/.320/.457/.778 (24-92) slash line with five home runs, three doubles, and 10 RBI, including one of his four career multi-home run games on July 9, 2024 at Angel Stadium.
