The Houston Astros defeated the Texas Rangers 11–2 on Friday night at Daikin Park behind a balanced offensive attack and another strong outing from Hunter Brown.
A 16-hit performance fueled the Astros’ offense as Yainer Diaz recorded four hits, Jeremy Peña drove in three runs, and Yordan Alvarez chipped in two RBI.
Astros – Rangers Game Summary
The Astros wasted little time putting pressure on Nathan Eovaldi. Taylor Trammell doubled in the second before Diaz singled to put runners on the corners. LaMonte Wade Jr. opened the scoring with an RBI double, and Alvarez followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 3–0.
The Rangers threatened early after scoring opportunities in the first and third innings, but Brown limited the damage. He erased one threat with a double play in the first and stranded two runners in the third by striking out Corey Seager.
The Astros added another run in the fourth. Cam Smith ripped a one-out triple before Peña lined an RBI single to center, extending the advantage to 4–0.
Back-to-back solo home runs pushed the Astros’ lead to 6–0 in the fifth. Isaac Paredes hit the first, and Christian Walker hit the next.
The Rangers finally answered in the sixth. Joc Pederson led off with a solo homer, and Evan Carter later added an RBI single after Seager doubled. Brown exited with two outs before Enyel De Los Santos recorded the final out to keep the lead at 6–2.
The Astros responded immediately. Diaz drove home Jose Altuve with seventh-inning single before Peña ripped a two-run double later in the inning. Paredes added an RBI single to cap a four-run frame and extend the lead to 10–2.
The offense added one more insurance run in the eighth. Nick Allen singled before Lucas Spence lined an RBI single to center for the Astros’ final run. AJ Blubaugh and Bryan King combined to finish the final two innings and secure the victory.
What Went Right for the Astros
Production throughout the Lineup
The Astros scored 11 runs with contributions throughout the lineup. Peña finished with three hits and three RBI, Diaz collected four hits and scored twice, Alvarez added two hits and two RBI, and Paredes homered while driving in two runs.
Hunter Brown
Brown pitched 5 2/3 innings and struck out six while allowing only two runs. He escaped multiple early jams, induced key outs with runners on base, and handed the game over with a comfortable lead.
Timely Power and Clutch Hitting
The Astros mixed power with situational hitting all night. Paredes and Walker hit back-to-back home runs, Smith’s triple led to another run, and Peña delivered the biggest swing of the late innings with a two-run double.
What Went Wrong for the Astros
Missed Chances Early
The Astros stranded runners in the first inning after putting two aboard against Eovaldi. Walker grounded into an inning-ending double play to erase an early scoring opportunity.
Rangers Capitalized in the Sixth
The Rangers briefly cut into the lead with Pederson’s solo homer and Carter’s RBI single. Brown also issued a pair of walks before exiting the game, creating extra traffic on the bases.
Strikeouts Limited Some Opportunities
Several Astros hitters struggled to put the ball in play early. Peña, Altuve, Trammell, Cam Smith, and Walker each struck out multiple times despite the team’s offensive success.

The Astros continue their home series against the Rangers on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Daikin Park.
