Amongst a ton of great performances in the 2026 World Baseball Classic pool round, there seems to be a recurring theme throughout. Many of the players performing well in the 2026 WBC will suit up for the Boston Red Sox in 2026. If the WBC is proof of how the Red Sox are going to perform in the 2026 MLB season, then Red Sox fans should be excited for what’s about to come.

Red Sox Hitters

Roman Anthony currently leads Team USA in RBI and has a 1.007 OPS. This includes Anthony’s three-run home run against Team Mexico that wound up being the deciding factor. Anthony became the youngest US player to homer in the WBC, with no player under 25 notching the feat before him. Jarren Duran of Team Mexico stands tied for the tournament lead with three home runs, two of which came against Team USA in the same game.

Masataka Yoshida is currently tied for the Team Japan lead in home runs and RBI, whilst managing a 1.654 OPS. Nate Eaton notched all three of Great Britain’s hits against the United States. That included a leadoff bomb off of Tarik Skubal. Wilyer Abreu and Willson Contreras, despite low slash lines, are tied for second on Team Venezuela with three RBI each.

Red Sox Pitchers

Brayan Bello pitched a great game against Team Israel, only allowing one hit in five innings. That hit was a solo home run to Spencer Horwitz. Garrett Whitlock, although only appearing once, boasts the only save for Team USA so far. Greg Weissert of Team Italy, however, is one of three pitchers to record multiple saves in the WBC to this point.

Looking Ahead

The knockout stage begins on Friday. Bello and Team Dominican Republic open the knockout round against Team Korea on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
