The New York Mets rookies have made substantial contributions to the team’s current outlook. Most recently, outfielder Nick Morabito and right-hander Justin Hagenman have made a positive first impression during their second go around in the majors. As a result of their efforts, the Mets have won four of their last six going into Monday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins.

Mets Rookies Contribute

Morabito, the Mets No. 14 ranked prospect, made his major league debut on May 19 against the Washington Nationals. He struggled during his first stint in which he failed to record a hit. Yet, he improved to record 108 hits, 14 doubles, 13 home runs and 47 RBI during his return to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets rookie outfielder returned to the majors on September 1. He remained quiet during his first two games. But that changed against the Tampa Bay Rays when he made a diving catch and hit a three-run double, which marked his first career hit. His efforts paid dividends as the Mets beat the Rays 10–4.

Days later, Morabito put his defensive talent on display when he made a running catch to prevent a hit from falling down against the San Francisco Giants. He also found success against the Marlins, lining an RBI single in the second inning. In the fifth, the Mets rookie drew a walk and swiped second, marking the first steal of his career.

“It’s great to have a plus base runner and a plus defender, who can put the ball in play. Those are three things [Morabito] does really well so when your thinking about what you want to do in a middle of a game he gives you a lot of options,” interim manager Andy Green said. “Watching him get a huge hit and drive in three runs, make a diving play and get another hit for good measure. I know it’s a special day that he won’t forget. We won’t forget it.”

Finding Success

Alongside Morabito, the Mets promoted Hagenman, who is unranked in their farm system. He made his major league debut last season, appearing in nine games. He totaled 23 strikeouts in more than 23 innings. But he also surrendered 24 hits and 12 earned runs as he held a 4.56 ERA in 2025.

During his second go around, the Mets righty made two appearances and recorded two strikeouts. Yet, he did give up three hits, two earned runs and one home run. In four innings, he has a 4.50 ERA and is still making progress on his game.
