Bo Bichette will remain with the New York Mets in 2027 as he is expected to exercise his $42 million player option. The All-Star third baseman, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays, signed a three-year, $126 million deal with the Mets in January. The deal also includes another $42 million player option for 2028. Will Sammon of The Athletic was first to report on the development Thursday.

Bo Bichette First Mets Season

After helping the Blue Jays reach the World Series in 2025, Bichette became a free agent at the end of that season. The Philadelphia Phillies offered him a seven-year, $190 million contract, but he turned it down to accept the Mets’ shorter offer. The intention was for him to make an impact on a team that was attempting to get over the hump to reach the playoffs.

However, Bo Bichette struggled to start his first season in Queens. Across the first two months of the year, he recorded 40 hits, 25 RBI and two home runs. Still, he got into a rhythm through the rest of the season. In 160 appearances, he tallied 166 hits, 78 RBI and 18 home runs while slashing .260/.312/.390 on a .702 OPS. His numbers declined from what he was capable of producing in the past, but were still enough to help the Mets recover from a 7–16 start to the season.

Bo Bichette provides the Mets with another veteran presence who appeared in most of the Mets’ games while injuries sidelined many of his teammates for portions of the season. For example, outfielder Juan Soto and shortstop Francisco Lindor appeared in less than 120 games in 2026.

In Other News

The Mets announced that they claimed infielder Kyren Paris off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. In three seasons, Paris recorded 34 hits, 17 RBI and seven home runs with 11 stolen bases. Additionally, the Mets designated outfielder Christian Pache for assignment after  appearing in 15 games for the Mets in 2026.
