The New York Mets made one of their first roster moves of the offseason, re-signing right-hander Robert Stock to a one-year deal. The team announced the deal Friday afternoon after Stock performed well enough in 2026 to earn another contract. However, his season ended prematurely due to being placed on the 15-day injured list with numbness in his fingers. Still, he remained hopeful that he would be in consideration to receive another contract.
”I’ve proven that my name should be in the conversation for being a major leaguer pitcher,” Stock said. “Obviously, there’s a million things that I want to improve and do better that will help me continue on.”
Robert Stock Stays With Mets
After struggling in his first five seasons, Stock returned to the Mets last season. His first stint with the team was in 2021 when he went 0–1 with six hits, three earned runs and two home runs given up across two appearances. He also struck out six in five innings. His career was trending downward at that time since he had a noticeably high 11.25 ERA with the Chicago Cubs in that same season.
Despite the unsuccessful first go-around, the Mets gave Robert Stock another opportunity to turn things around. Across eight appearances, the righty went 1–3 with 29 strikeouts and a 5.93 ERA. In 30 1/3 innings, he surrendered 38 hits, 20 earned runs, 15 walks and two home runs. Overall, he had 25 strikeouts in 26 innings in August while recording nine strikeouts in September.
The unflattering numbers came as Robert Stock had multiple inconsistent outings. For instance, he totaled seven strikeouts to three hits in 4 1/3 innings against the Washington Nationals on August 14. In his next appearance against the San Diego Padres, he struck out six batters in 4 1/3 innings. He delivered in both outings which the Mets went on to win. At the same time, he surrendered 10 hits and seven earned runs in a 8–1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on August 26.
