Minnesota Twins Trade Deadline Options

Minnesota Twins Deadline

The Minnesota Twins trade deadline options for this year have become interesting. Last season, the Twins made multiple trades before the injuries, and an offensive collapse pushed the team out of the AL Central race. What they will before this trade deadline remains a hot topic. Do they acquire, stay with what they have, or make moves to help this team win the AL Central? Many people are speculating.

Not Many Compatible Teams

The Twins are currently in first place in the AL Central and it appears that only the Cleveland Guardians, who will also try and make some trades, will challenge them. There aren’t a lot of teams selling this year, possibly only seven or eight. However, three of the teams are in the AL Central, the Chicago White Sox, the Detroit Tigers, and the Kansas City Royals. It is difficult to make a trade within your division. That leaves the Colorado Rockies, the Oakland Athletics, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Washington Nationals as the Twins’ only options for working trades.

Needs

This Twins team has many needs and has some prospects to trade if need be. They certainly need relievers, and a starting pitcher. if one is available. They also need a power-hitting right-handed batter. It will be up to the front office and manager Rocco Baldelli to find out if any trades will help the organization to win the AL Central now.

Carlos Correa

If the Twins want to win the AL Central, it is time for Carlos Correa to step up. Correa needs to show that he can be a leader, both on the field and in the clubhouse. If anybody is going to get this lineup out of their current doldrums, it just might be him. It has been an irregular season for the veteran shortstop. He has not lived up to the expectations as a premier player, but he has shown signs of improvement lately. He carried this team last year in September and he needs to do it again.

Weak Division

One of the Minnesota Twins’ trade deadline options could also come down to staying with what they have. The AL Central is the worst division in baseball. The Twins’ front office could decide to put their trust in players currently on the roster.

Infielder Jorge Polanco is coming back from a hamstring injury and relief pitchers Brock Stewart and Caleb Thielbar are close to returning. This will help out. If other veterans like Byron Buxton and Joey Gallo can help out to bolster this offense for the stretch run, they might decide to pass up on any major trades.

The Twins have 55 games left with half of them being at Target Field. Among the 55 are 22 games against the White Sox, the Rockies, the Tigers, the Pirates, the Athletics, and the St Louis Cardinals. These teams are all at least 14 games under .500, or more, and are not playing good baseball. The Twins must win against these teams if they want to win the AL Central. Whether or not they do that with the current team remains to be seen.
