10-Run Explosion Helps Red Sox Win Over Tigers

Red Sox-Tigers Game Summary

After two groundouts to start the first, Wilyer Abreu and Trevor Story each got on base. With Ceddanne Rafaela up, he received a 1–1 sinker down the middle and went opposite field for a three-run bomb. Not to be deterred, the Tigers responded with a leadoff home run from Matt Vierling, as well as an RBI single by Wenceel Perez to make it 3–2 after one inning.

Third Inning Run Support

Rafaela came up with two runners on once again. This time, he drove an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead. Andruw Monasterio, Caleb Durbin and Connor Wong all followed up with RBI singles of their own. Isiah Kiner-Falefa would hit into a fielder’s choice scoring another run in the process. Valdez finally got the third out, but not before the Red Sox made it 8–2 through three innings.

Fourth Inning Follow-Up

Willson Contreras started the fourth with a 449-foot home run, flipping his bat in the process. Wilyer Abreu came up and made it back-to-back jacks, making it 10–2. Valdez responded by plunking Trevor Story in the bat first pitch, causing the benches to clear, as well as getting him ejected.

Dillon Dingler ripped an RBI single to make it 10–3 before Bello got through the fifth without much more trouble. Bello allowed one baserunner in the next three innings, before Alec Gamboa got the ballin the ninth.

What Went Right for the Red Sox

After Jovani Moran struggling in the first inning, Brayan Bello delivered his best outing of the year.

10-Run Explosion

This marks only the second time the Red Sox put up double-digit runs all year. The team as a whole feasted, going 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position, and seven guys driving in runs.

What Went Wrong for the Red Sox

Duran’s Dreadful Day

After a three-hit performance in the last game, he followed it up with a three strikeout game this contest, while going 0-for-5 in the process. He was the only Red Sox hitter to not record a hit or an RBI in this game.

Looking Ahead

The last game of the series will take place on Wednesday at 6:40 pm Eastern. Sonny Gray and Jack Flaherty will be the pitchers scheduled to duel.
