With the No. 27 overall pick of the first round in the 2026 MLB draft, the New York Mets selected Carson Wiggins out of Arkansas. The righty reliever spent two seasons at the college level, but was sidelined for all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Mets Select Carson Wiggins

Wiggins, a 21-year-old native of Arkansas, stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 215 pounds. He has an 80-grade and a fastball that reaches 102 mph. He also has an excellent spin slider. At the major league combine, he threw 15 pitches, with his fastball touching 97.4 mph. His slider reached 85 mph.

In one season with the Razorbacks, he recorded 20 strikeouts on a 3.86 ERA in 14 outings. Still, Carson Wiggins gave up seven hits, six runs, five earned runs and nine walks. His freshman year was cut short due to a torn UCL in his elbow. This resulted in him undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing all of his sophomore season.

Wiggins joined the SEC program as a No. 35 rated prospect. He was also the No. 10 prospect of the 2024 high school class out of Oklahoma. The pick carries a slot value of more than $3 million. The Mets also hold the No. 92 pick of the third round and the 120th selection of the fourth.

Promising Farm System

The Mets have exceeded at developing prospects in their farm system. This year Carson Benge and AJ Ewing broke out to become prominent members of the major league roster. The system also kickstarted the development of former prospect Brett Baty. They blossomed into regular members of the major league team for the past few seasons.

In terms of pitching prospects, the Mets have Zach Thornton, who made his debut earlier this season. If all goes according to plan Carson Wiggins could be the next to come out of their system. But, that will take a bit of time for it to come to fruition.
